The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) is a museum focused specially to championing and incredible women through the arts.

The museum’s founders, Wilhelmina Cole Holladay and Wallace F. Holladay, began collecting art in the 1970s, just as scholars and art historians were beginning to discuss the underrepresentation of art by women and various racial and ethnic groups in museums.

The National Museum of Women in the Arts brings recognition to the achievements of women artists of all periods and nationalities by exhibiting, preserving, acquiring, and researching art by women and by teaching the public about their accomplishments.

With its collections, exhibitions, programs, and online content, the museum wants to inspire dynamic exchanges about art and ideas.

NMWA seeks a better representation of women artists and serves as a essential center for thought leadership, community engagement, and social change. The museum addresses the gender inequality in the presentation of art by showing and representing important women artists of the past and also promoting remarkable women artists of the actual century.
